Where did you come up with your name?
My first name is Antoine and when we were younger, my older brother would tease me from time to time and call me ‘Twain’. Later, some of my guys started calling me that in high school.
So when I started to rap and needed a stage name, I just rolled with that. Always in all capital letters though, ha.

Who influenced your love of music?

Not so much a person but growing up in & around Chicago listening to WGCI 107.5 all the time; the radio. The music was so classic, especially in the late 80’s and early 90’s. But I guess that’s still my mom since she was the one playing it haha, plus she played a lot of Sadé, Luther Vandross, and Anita Baker too. And that music was incredible. So I gotta credit her too.

When did you know that this was something you wanted to take serious?

Right after high school…age 18. I had been working on my craft in private for the prior few years and I saw myself leveling up. I could hear it back when I’d spit, and my peoples around me was saying the same. So it was time.

What rapper would be your dream collaboration?

B.I.G. The Notorious B.I.G. trading bars with me would have me rise to the occasion like never before.

What producer would be your dream collaboration?

Lol there’s still independent producers I dream of working with…I’m big on the power of the unknown / up-and-coming. But, of course I’d love to work with any of the super producers: Dre, Pharrell, Kanye, Just Blaze, No I.D., DJ Quik, Jermaine Dupri, Bink!, Timbaland, Puffy. And J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, 9th Wonder, The Inkredibles, Mike Will, Metro Boomin, Hit Boy, Boi-1da, I can really go on & on. Producers are the key IMO.

What advice do you have for someone that is thinking about being an artist?

Being an artist is super difficult for a myriad of factors. You’ll only survive if you love it & are doing it for the right reasons.

Have you ever encountered a writer’s block when it came to writing your music and what did you do to over come it?

Yes, I lost five years of my music career due to it. I dropped a album in October 2009, my next commercial release was December 2014. That never happened before. I got through by focusing on living my life & growing as a person / human, then simply writing about those experiences with no pressure.

If you were not pursuing music what do you think that you would be doing?

I’d likely be a writer / philosopher. Some sort of thought leader. I still plan on doing that post-music 😉

What do you think about the music scene in your city is it geared to help indie artists thrive?

Dave Chappelle recently said him & all his comedian friends are jealous of each other but love each other. That sums up what’s its like in the Twin Cities music scene, especially hip-hop. I used to be more hopeful, but it’s not the reality. I pray things will change; I believe they will. Outside of that, our scene is great. We actually have one, some cities don’t.

Has going after music caused you to lose any friends?  If so how do you feel about that?

Naw. I have a zero tolerance policy with something like that. The concept sounds ridiculous to me.

What event or festival would you like to perform at?

Glastonbury, Coachella, or Made In America since our culture owns that. But I’m happy to perform anywhere, I’d love to do something with Go Radio 95.3 and KMOJ 89.9 here in my city, Minneapolis. More importantly tho, I’ve built my own concert brands I can perform at that are mine. So I don’t have to ask for anything unless I choose.

What group of people are you trying to reach when it comes to your music?

At this point, anyone it resonates with and enjoys it. The more calculated answer would be millennials who love 90’s & early 2000s hip-hop & lyricism. But, supporters come in all ages & shapes & sizes. I show appreciation to whoever they are!

How far do you want to go with your career?

Those same supporters I just named, I want to continue to build on to them & expand my core audience. To continue to feed them music, merch & lifestyle, content, live music experiences, and other affiliated acts that have my co-sign & backing. If you’re reading this I hope you become one.

At what point will you considered that you have made it?

I’ve been at this so long I feel like I already have. Being a artist is a privilege, and I survived the music business to get to this moment. A lot of people I started with didn’t. We define our own success; I’m grateful to share my art & impact people. As cliché as that sounds, but it’s the truth.

What is something positive that you want people to know about you?

I’m committed to being the best I can be; I am the change I wanna see in the world.

What is something you have to do before you record your music?

I dunno I’m weird…I like to make sure I look the part when I go to the studio. I rarely go record in casual or comfortable clothes. I feel like it makes my performance better on the recording lol, so a fresh pair of kicks, a dope fit, some jewelry with a nice watch. All that.

What is something that you have to have in the studio with you when you are recording?

My longtime recording engineer Paul Shanafelt, that’s it.

Would you change anything that you have done to get where you are now?

Yes, a few things, at least that I know about it; because there are always things that we don’t know that we don’t know. But I’m living in the now, I take responsibility for those & I have to just move forward.

What is your latest single that you are promoting?

Two actually, “She Do Somethin” and “Changes” featuring Jay Jeminii.

What are some things you are working on for the future?

Right now just promoting my new Central Standard Time album full force & continuing to learn about the music business so I can strategize properly. I also manage a new R&B artist named Cariah Brinaé, and am producing another R&B songstress named Christina Sophia. Helping their careers is keeping me very busy. And some other stuff I am not at liberty to speak on publicly just yet.

What shout outs do you have?

Cariah, Christina, everybody who works close with me to ensure my success, Paul Shanafelt, all the supporters of my music past, present, and future. My family, and a special shout to my children, Jason and J.R.

Where can people follow you on social media?

December Artist of the Month – Young Ent

Posted on December 2, 20181 Comment on December Artist of the Month – Young Ent

Whats good.. My name is Young Ent. Ive been doing music for about 10yrs now. I was a late bloomer when it comes to music but god bless me with a wonderful talent I didn’t even know I had. I was introduced to music from my big brother Tu Tu G. If it wasn’t for him and On Da Grind Ent. I wouldn’t be doing music today. It was because he and the team inspired me to do it when I didnt believe in myself. I think the music scene is like a ocean but infested in sharks. Its alot of hate in Atlanta but not just in Atlanta but everywhere cause everybody now of days wanna be a rapper and with nessage behind it. I feel as some people have it… And some people dont. Music has changed so much substance wise. My music is more about my life anf situations that Ive been through. My music is real and truthful. I speak to be a voice to our kids and community. My single Im pushing as of now is #ComingForEverything Ive been pushing this record for 2 yrs now and it’s still making noise since the first day I dropped it. I would describe my music as il ( In your face ) motivation for others to be different and speak there mind. My last name is Young And I’m a vreat entertainer… So put them together… You get ( Young Ent ) In the next year I plan to be the biggest artist in the music industry since 2pac and Biggie. You can find #ComingForEverything on all music platforms and on my Youtube

( THEREALYOUNGENT ) One thing to know about me is I support everybody and not in competition with no one but myself. I want to be better than me everyday. A must have when Im recording is peace and quit to record… And one thing I can do without is people in my session while Im recording if there not on the record that is… When I work I want to work and zone out into the music. If I could work with any artist it would be Ludacris cause we have alot of similarities and lyrically I think he is slept on the must and dont get his credit when it comes to substance and delivery. What I want people to take away from while listening to my music is… Motivation that they can do what ever they want to do in life, just put ur mind to it, work hard and keep god first cause without him nothing would be posible. I see myself being very wealthy in 5 yrs and not rich… Its a difference. I’m a full time father and a ceo to my brand and company
( Derty Mid ) Which stands from Dirth South & Midwest put together. Im from E. Saint Louis, Illinois and I reside in Atlanta, Ga. Put them together and u get unity… 3/4 of the United States… If I can get everybody screaming it in unity… We can get ( Trump ) out of office 2020. You can find me on all social media at
( @young_ent )  and I want to shout out to god my family ( wife & kids ) my mother, God … My producers @bino100keys @fatt_onda_track @gee_ged @eastsideslimm @bloomondabeat @djstreetz905 I want to thank @Imdaplugg Mr Vandyke and anyone that has helped me along the way. Too many to name but I do remember those who helped me. To all my fans thank you for supporting me all these hears and this is just the beginning… So stay tuned as Im still #ComingForEverything check out my second single #Scrimps aka #Pappadeaux produced by @fatt_onda_track certified banger… And Ima let We Balzing Hip-Hop have it first…
#DertyMidSalute to yall cause its appreciated this way. God bless.

November Artist of the Month – VonnTheArtist

Posted on November 12, 2018November 12, 20181 Comment on November Artist of the Month – VonnTheArtist

Introduce yourself and tell us where you are from?

  • what’s going on y’all!!! My name is VonnTheArtist and I’m hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Boot

How did you get started in the music business?

  • I got my start in the music business just recently really. I been rapping and making music for a very long time but the music business is a different story. It would be after my very first video “Louisiana Hard Hitter”. That’s when I started to learn about promotion, traveling, radio, opening up for artist, etc. it’s been a long journey.

What do you feel like the music scene is like for independent artists like yourself in your city?

  • the music scene is actually one of the best right now if I had to say. Baton Rouge is like a hidden gem. It’s a small town with big talent. We don’t have the labels or the machines like other cities and states so we have to rely on each other for a push. Videos, photo shoots, promotion, etc. 9/10 it’s another artist that does these things so that’s how we build our network up. So the scene here is FLOODED with just talent.

For those who havent heard your music how would you describe it?

  • I don’t really know but if I had to say anything it’ll be motivational, inspiring, entertaining, fun, different and conscious. I like to talk about growth but make it still entertaining to the ear.

What is the current single(s) that you are pushing and where can people find it?

  • my current single at this moment is “Heads up” & “K.O.K”. This two songs can be found on my new project that just dropped “Valor”. It’s available on all digital music steaming and download platforms. https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/valor/1437289287

What goals do you want to achive with in the next year?

  • I been working on Valor for this entire end and dropped it at the end. When I had this vision in mind the goal I wanted to achieve was to just make my name know as a artist but that’s small thinking. My goal within the next year is to me mentioned as one of the great. To be that artist that somebody can look at they friend a year from now and say “I told you that that boy was gon blow!!” Lol. So you can say my goal in the next year is to make my mark in this industry as a real MC.

How did you come up with the name Vonntheartist?

  • My name use to be just “ICE” but for the reason of branding, marketing and just being overall searchable I had to change it. I still go by ICE but it’s VonnTheArtist now. An artist and a rapper are two different things. I use to rap til I understood what it takes to make a song. They are two different processes. My real name is Sherman Shavon Wells. So, I just dissected it and condensed it to Vonn. It’s short and sweet and it’s part of my real name so it’s easy to carry around. My good friends Tony Tumac and DJ Tokyo helped me move forward with this decision. Slapped the artist at the back of it and BOOM…rebranded.

What is one thing people dont know about you that you would like for them to know?

  • I would love for y’all to know that I am a very big gamer and a music nerd. Retro games are my favorite. Super Nintendo, sega genesis, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64. And old school music the same. I love Ray Charles, muddy waters, prince, the spinners, earth, wind and fire…can’t beat the classics.

What is something that is a must have when you are recording?

  • Comfort, focus, positive vibes, chemistry and some kinda mint. They clear out your sinuses so breath control becomes easier.

What is one thing that you can do without?

  • the politics of the music industry. Things have changed I know and It comes with time but skill use to be a requirement. We wouldn’t have Eminem, NAS, lil Wayne, T.I, Ludacris, jadakiss, j. Cole and more of it wasn’t for skill. A lot of artist are going to die out after the hype wears off and we won’t have a lot of legends from the new generation without actual skill because politics make it only about money and who can sale. You don’t even have to be good anymore to be a artist. People laughed at shock G but his rhyming patterns are actually dope.

If you had to select an artist you wanted to work with who would it be and why?

  • I would love to work with J. Cole hands down. He is just my favorite artists. He is one of the artist I have been following since he start and watched he become one of the greats. He definitely in my top 5 dead or alive.

What is something that you want people to take away from when listening to your music?

  • never settle, Always aim big, #nobroke, follow your dreams, find your purpose and never let anybody or anything project their fears on you.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years with your music career?

  • In 5 years, I want to be in a place where I can run a successful label and have the formula and tools to be able to put the next generation on and create superstars. I’m not selfish at all. There are TONS of artist and great acts that just need a chance. I want to be that chance in 5 years.

Besides music is there anything else that you are apart of?

  • Just a few online. Battle rap groups, throwback groups, motivation and self help groups. I’m not really apart of anything big. I’m super regular.

Where can people find you at on social media?

  • You can find me at the following:
  • Instagram: VonnTheArtist
  • Twitter: VonnTheArtist
  • Snapchat: VonnTheArtist
  • Facebook: VonnTheArtist
  • Spotify, iTunes, deezer, Apple Music, SoundCloud, googleplay and more as well.

Do you have any shout outs?

  • I wanna thank god first for breath and my talent. Wanna thank my mama and daddy for creating me, all and everyone of my friends and family. Every single one of my haters and enemies that made me into the man I am today. The struggle and poverty for crafting my grind and my hustle. Love all of it.
